Why the name?

What, you mean Nachtfox?Well, if you know at least a little bit of German, you'd know Nacht is German for night. My name completely translated to English would be Nightfox, but that felt a bit bland to me when I was first coming up with an alias.I translated night into several languages before I came across the German one and decided to stick with that one.Nightfox in full in German is Nachtfuchs, but fuchs doesn't have the same ring to it that fox does.Ergo, I chose the name Nachtfox.

What languages do you know?

Since this Carrd was made for organizing my language-learning accounts, I'll tell you a bit about my language capabilities!My native language is (American) English. I suppose if you dropped me smack dab in the middle of Australia, Canada, the UK, or any country that has a substantial number of English speakers in it, we would probably be mutually understandable, but obviously there would be vocabulary differences here and there.My second language is Chinese. I'm a Chinese-American, so I grew up in a household that used and taught me Chinese. I'm taking AP Chinese this year, so even though my language skills in Chinese are still rather debatable, I think I'm somewhat decent at using it. (At least, I hope so...)我现在才发现我上面所有写的字都是用英文写的。我试着写点儿中文吧。。。我知道我刚才刚说过我的中文应该没问题，但其实我读和写中文都对我来说是很大的困难。我在这个方面还要加油！我听力和说话都应该没那么大的问题，因为我每天在家里只能用中文跟我的爷爷奶奶或外公外婆说话。我现在继续用英文写吧！I know a very, very, very small amount of Russian at the moment. Little enough that I would say I wouldn't even consider myself properly "knowing" the language. I’m taking the Duolingo course for it, but I have very little grasp of grammar and syntax rules. I know very basic and commonly used words, but that's about it. And yeah, I can read Cyrillic script. That's kind of a necessity if you're trying to learn Russian though, so... lol. That isn't too special.Кроме того, могу я просто сказать, что произношение «здравствуйте» смехотворно сложно? Русский труден... по крайней мере, для иностранца. What languages are you interested in learning?

So, along with Chinese, Russian, and of course English, I do hope that someday I could consider learning German and/or French.I know that makes me sound like an aspiring polyglot or something, but trust me... I probably won't be able to. No matter how hard I try, I highly doubt I would achieve fluency in any other language that I pursue. The only possible way that I'd even stand a chance is if I lived in the countries where these languages are spoken for an extended period of time. And since that isn't really that feasible... at least, not for me, I'm not going to get my hopes too high.But who knows? Life surprises you sometimes. We'll see what ultimately happens...
